Outdoors & Nature

NCDUK 2020 is on Sunday May 17th and the week running up to it

We love the big outdoors and to see children running around outside, particularly when they're engaging with the natural world, which is hugely important for their healthy development. Even if you live in a town, there are parks to explore, or what about linking up with neighbours to reclaim your street for your children on the day? Above all, have fun!
If you run a farm park or other public attraction, what about linking up with NCDUK and making the day particularly special for children, with activities like identification/observer games, scavenger hunts, name the animal, and so on.

If you're an individual, group or organisation and want to create a special day for the child/children in your life, here are some suggestions of activities you could plan:

  • Go on a scavenger hunt for feathers, shells, leaves, etc.
  • Go on a treasure hunt with clues to solve
  • Go for a walk in the woods, park - and take a picnic
  • Build a sandcastle
  • Go rock-pooling
  • Visit a farm park, safari park, birds of prey centre

  • Go for a cycle ride
  • Build a den in the woods
  • Ask council to close your street so children can play out
  • Have a children's street party
  • Go out even if it's raining or, if it's too bad, look at 'Creativity and Imagination' for other ideas
