Creativity & Imagination

Books and reading, arts and crafts, making and playing - they're all hugely important and we would encourage anyone involved with children to ensure that creativity and imagination have a big role on NCDUK and in the week running up to it.
Are you a librarian or bookshop or school? How about holding a book event for children on NCDUK with a visit from a favourite author or storyteller? Do you hold pottery, art or craft classes for children? If so, can you make it extra special with a celebratory theme for NCDUK?

If you're an individual, group or organisation and want to create a special day for the child/children in your life, here are some suggestions of activities you could plan:
  • Hold a storytelling event, or go to one
  • Act out a favourite story
  • Write a story together or a poem
  • Paint a big frieze or make a collage
  • Make something out of paper, wood, material, even food
  • Go to an art gallery
  • Go to a craft/pottery/teddybear-making workshop
  • Make jewellery, pompoms, mobiles, masks, bookmarks
  • Go outside and create art from nature
  • Play silly games with children taking the lead
